A 4WD ute with all terrain tyres outside the Charlton Tyre Service workshop

4WD & lift kits

Lift, wheels, tyres.
One job, one yard.

Planned together so it clears, sits level and drives straight. Alignment corrected as part of the work, not left for you to sort out after.

  • Aligned after the liftPart of the job, not an extra
  • Sized to actually clearChecked at full lock and full flex
  • Downs gravel testedWe drive the same roads you do

The whole job

Four things that have to agree with each other.

Do them at four different places and each one is somebody else’s problem when it rubs. Do them here and it is ours.

The lift

Springs, shocks and the bits that have to move with them. Matched to what the vehicle actually carries rather than to a photo of one that never leaves the tar.

  • Suspension lift kits fitted
  • Shocks and springs to suit the load
  • Touring, work and weekend setups

The wheels

Offset is the number that decides whether the tyre clears the guard or eats it. Bring the vehicle in and hold the wheel against it before you commit.

  • Alloy and steel rims in the showroom
  • Offset checked against the guard
  • Wheel and tyre packages built together

The tyres

All terrain for the ute that still does school runs, rugged terrain for the one that spends its weekends in the scrub. We will tell you honestly which one you are.

  • Falken Wildpeak and Maxxis RAZR
  • Load ratings matched to the build
  • Balanced so it is quiet at a hundred

The alignment

The step that gets skipped. A lift moves the geometry, and a brand new setup that was never realigned starts chewing its front tyres from week one.

Clearance

It clears in the driveway.
That is not the test.

A tyre can sit fine at rest and still catch on full lock or full articulation. We check it where it actually matters before you drive out.

At full lock

Wheels turned hard both ways, which is where an aggressive offset finds the guard liner and the strut first.

Turned, both directions

Under load

Loaded with the gear it actually carries. A tourer sits a long way lower with the drawers, the fridge and the water in.

Gap checked laden

Through the travel

Cycled through the suspension travel so the tyre is not going to find the guard on the first washout.

Top to bottom

Against the brake and strut

Inside clearance on the caliper and the strut body, which is the one nobody looks at until something scores.

Inside face checked

Speedo and gearing

A bigger tyre changes what the speedo reads and how the vehicle pulls. We will tell you what the diameter jump is doing before you buy it.

On what is legal

Queensland has rules on how much lift and how much bigger a tyre can go before a vehicle needs certifying. Tell us what you have in mind and we will tell you where that line sits before anything gets ordered.

How a build runs

Planned before anything gets ordered.

The expensive mistakes on a 4WD build all happen before the spanners come out. Most of this is a conversation at the counter with the vehicle sitting outside.

What does it actually do?

Daily driver that sees the odd track, a work ute on gravel every day, or a tourer that is loaded to the roof twice a year. Three very different builds.

Sized on the vehicle

Wheels held against your own guards, tyre diameter checked against the clearance you have. No ordering off a chart and hoping.

One quote, one booking

Lift, wheels, tyres and the alignment in a single number, so nothing turns up at the counter that was not in the conversation.

Fitted, aligned, checked

Everything on, the alignment set afterwards, clearance checked through the travel and a printout in your hand before you leave.

In the showroom

Hold the wheel against the ute before you buy it.

Wheels look different in a catalogue than they do on your vehicle, in your colour, at your ride height. The showroom is there so you can stand a rim against the guard and decide with your eyes rather than with a render.

  • Alloys and steels on display
  • Offsets compared side by side
  • Tyre and wheel priced as a package
  • Honest opinion if it will not work

Good questions

Before you
spend anything.

The ones worth asking before an order goes in rather than after the parts arrive.

Do I need an alignment after a lift?

Yes. Changing ride height changes the caster and camber whether the kit says so or not. Driving a fresh lift on the old alignment is the quickest way to ruin a new set of tyres, so we build it into the job rather than selling it separately.

Will bigger tyres wreck my fuel economy?

They will cost you something. A taller, heavier, more aggressive tyre takes more to turn and changes the effective gearing. How much depends on the jump and the vehicle, and we would rather tell you that up front than have you find out at the bowser.

All terrain or rugged terrain?

Be honest about the split. If it is mostly bitumen with a few weekends a year on dirt, an all terrain is quieter, lasts longer and is better in the wet. Rugged terrain earns its keep if you are genuinely in the rough often, and you will hear it on the highway.

Can you fit a kit I bought myself?

Ring and tell us what it is. In most cases yes. What we will not do is fit something we think is wrong for the vehicle without saying so first, and anything you supply is warranted by whoever sold it to you rather than by us.

How long does a lift and tyre package take?

Depends entirely on the kit and the vehicle, so ring and we will give you a real answer rather than a number off a page. Getting the parts in is usually the longer half of it.

Will it still be legal?

There are limits in Queensland on lift height and tyre diameter before a vehicle needs certification. We will tell you where your plan sits relative to those limits before anything is ordered. We fit and advise, we do not certify.

Tell us what you are building.

Drop the rego in with a note about what you have in mind and we will come back with a package that clears, sits right and drives straight, priced as one job.
